The new tax arrangements for backpackers' superannuation take effect on this coming 1 July 2017.
If you're a backpacker who is leaving the country and claiming superannuation from 1 July 2017 onwards, then you will lose 65 per cent in tax , in stead of 38% (current tax rate).
Backpackers are those who hold 417 or 462 Working Holiday visas.
It doesn't matter whether you earned that superannuation under the new rules or the old rules: if you claim it from 1 July 2017, the whole amount is taxed at 65 per cent.
You can save 27 per cent in tax if you process the claim and receive the payment before 1 July 2017.
